Forecast record

Forecasts, sealed before the fact.

Every day, a forecast of each Pricify index and of 222 graphics card and processor models, 7, 30 and 90 days ahead, with an 80% range. Each day's forecasts are sealed with a fingerprint chained to the day before, so none can change after the fact, and each is scored when its day comes.

Scores

How the record has done.

Two measures, by horizon: the median error of the middle forecast, and how often what happened fell inside the 80% range. An honest range holds it about 8 times in 10; far more often means it is too wide, far less means too narrow.

The method on record

A baseline first.

The baseline: the figure stays where it is, with an 80% range from how much such figures have moved day to day. Every later method is scored against it on the same record.

It is a deliberately simple method, and in calm weeks a hard one to beat. A new method joins the record beside it, sealed and scored the same way, and is offered only once its scores show it does better.

A graphics card or processor model is forecast while it has a market: in stock at a store at its own price at the end of at least five of the last seven days. Forecasts are made only for the day that has just ended, never for an earlier one.

Each fingerprint is the SHA-256 of the day's forecasts and of the fingerprint before it. Ask us for any day's full forecasts and check them against it.

Forecasts of component prices, not of any company's shares, and not advice to buy or sell anything.
